As of 2023, AI has been working in law enforcement. Law enforcement has been using AI for things such as, helping crime investigations, facial recognition to help analyze faces from security cameras, and even analyzing sound patterns to detect and pinpoint locations of gunshots. As these might help out law enforcement now, there is a high possibility that AI will eventually take over more and more things from law enforcement. It is a helpful tool but also risky because people in law enforcement could eventually lose their jobs because of a computer solving crime. Crime has been getting solved thanks to law enforcement since the 19th century. There is no need for new technology right now.

AI will not be able to take a crash report, or a fatal collision report, can’t arrest DUI drivers, write law enforcement tickets, etc. AI still has a long way to go before they will be able to take over law enforcement. Law enforcement has to be done by real humans, that is the only way crime will get solved. We can’t rely on artificial intelligence to determine the letter of the law and spirit of the law. Imagine how easy it would be to escape if AI is trying to make an arrest. The crime rate can go up because when people find out AI is doing the same things as a police officer, people will take it as a joke and commit a crime, there is a good chance they would not get caught. The only thing that AI will do is slow down law enforcement.
