The dazzling role of the princess of crime, the right hand woman of the joker, Harleen Quinzel (aka Harley Quinn) was heavily theorized to be featured in Todd Phillips’ Joker (2019) but alas, she was not shown. Fast forward to around March 2023, we already know of a sequel on the way but suddenly, we see photos of no one other than mother monster herself, Lady Gaga, on the set of the upcoming film in a black and red diamond ensemble.. Would Gaga’s acting career prove her right for the role? Let's dive in.
Gaga has only recently begun acting in big roles, she landed arguably her most famous role as The Countess in American Horror Story’s fifth season: Hotel. In this role she is a main figure in the season's plot, and gives a spine chilling performance as a ruthless, blood thirsty (spoiler) vampire. I personally have watched the season a couple years ago and till this day I still see the image of her deadly gaze as she preys upon the unknowing guests.
The next big film she was featured in was Bradly Coopers’: A Star is Born. In this movie she plays another main role as a young artist, named Ally, who meets this country star, Jackson. We follow their relationship which is tainted with the air of alcohol and music, so many ups and downs make you feel really attached to the characters. The music is also really good vocally from Cooper and Gaga. I have watched this movie and the ending was so…. UGH.. you’ll have to find out for yourself.
Lastly, we're going to talk about Ridley Scott’s: House of Gucci. I have not watched this movie but I have heard a lot of good things about this film, including Gaga’s performance as Patrizia Reggiani. She plays a serious and devoted approach to playing this woman and 100% committed to the role, “finding the heart of a killer”.
With showcasing this diverse cast of roles, and Gaga being able to play them all so well, this leads me to believe that all of these roles together can make me believe that she is totally fit for the role of the jester of chaos herself, Harley quinn. Make sure to see the film in October of 2024. She slayed.
