On April 4th, 2023, Warner Bros. Pictures released the second official teaser trailer for their upcoming Barbie movie, releasing this summer, July 21st. It has since garnered over 19 million views on Warner Bros. Pictures’ official YouTube channel and re-sparked a lot of the hype surrounding this movie. But what’s so special about this teaser? What made it explode as it did in such a short time? Keep reading and we’ll find out. This is What’s in a Trailer?
The trailer opens with the titular mascot walking in and taking off her bedazzled high heels, showing her in the classic tippy-toe pose from her iconic doll model. This is then followed by a scene where we get to meet plenty of other characters. Characters such as Barbie, Barbie, Barbie, Barbie, Ken, and Ken. This teaser trailer appears to have more of a focus on the primary Barbie (played by Margot Robbie) and Ken (played by Ryan Gosling) and their relationship with each other.
The trailers we have received so far have done a great job of hiding what the main plot of the movie will be. Even after quite some time to pick apart both of the Barbie trailers, no one can seem to agree on what the plot may be. Creators all over platforms such as TikTok and Twitter have debated and theorized about it, but there doesn’t seem to be one clear answer.
The only thing the Barbie fandom can agree on is that the movie seems like it will be a very fun watch based on these trailers. The teaser trailer does an extremely good job at what a teaser trailer is meant to do. It teases you with some quality bits of the movie without revealing too much and creates a sense of excited anticipation up to its full theatrical release. If you’re familiar with Barbie’s history at all I suggest taking a deep dive into this trailer. From start to finish, almost everything on screen is a nod to something within the Barbie line of products. Set pieces, props, and even certain background imagery are something to look out for when watching. Even if you aren’t exactly a Barbie fanatic, this trailer is just overall a fun watch, filled with bright colors and comedy that almost anyone could like.
This teaser trailer is a fantastic example of what a trailer could and should be. It’s fun to watch and rewatch, created plenty of hype for the upcoming movie, and even made someone like me, who initially knew little to nothing about this movie, want to go see it in theaters. Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, releases in theaters on July 21, and I think everyone should at least give seeing this movie some thought, especially after a trailer as well crafted as the one they have just put out. I hope this helped you gain some insight into this trailer and excited you for this movie!
